Sierra Madre Gold and Silver's reconnaissance sampling at Tepic returns up 648 g/t silver and up to 7.43 g/t gold.

Sierra Madre Tepic Project

Sierra Madre Gold and Silver Ltd. (SM:TSX.V) announced in a news release the recent field work it accomplished at the Tepic silver-gold project.

Over about the last six months, the British Columbia-based company completed geologic mapping and reconnaissance sampling of about 50% of the concession in Mexico. It aims to map the entire property and, thus, will continue with those efforts.

From its progress so far, Sierra Madre noted that it had identified 10-plus kilometers of hydrothermally altered and mineralized structures.

The company stated that the project's central area showed a complex network of silver- and gold-bearing structures. Highlights of sampling from the newly found El Creston structure there included 788 grams per ton (788 g/t) silver equivalent (Ag eq) on the Nanche vein and 798 g/t Ag eq on the Veta Tomas structure.

Sierra Madre commenced a 2,700 meter (2,700m) trenching program on new and previously identified structures and road cuts in the central area to better understand and determine the potential of the geology there.

The eastern part, not explored by the previous operator, contains at least one major, 1-km-long structure containing silver and gold mineralization, now called Taunas. Reconnaissance sampling returned up to 597 g/t silver and up to 1.87 g/t gold. Three samples showed 500-plus g/t Ag eq, the highest of which was 649 g/t Ag eq.

The company plans to do trenching in the eastern part as well to determine Taunas' potential size and grade.

The northern area contains many erosional windows hosting silver- and gold-bearing structures. None has ever been thoroughly explored or drill tested. "Mapping and reconnaissance sampling by the company has produced results that indicate the area has greater potential than previously thought," the company stated. Values of silver returned from reconnaissance sampling were up to 600 g/t and of gold, up to 1.22 g/t. Silver equivalent values were as high as 686 g/t. Sampling results indicated the Astasis area to be of greatest interest, the company noted.

Sierra Madre plans a trenching program in the Tepic's northern portion as well, to sample bedrock below the colluvial cover.
