Defense Metals reported that it is advancing its baseline environmental monitoring programs at its Wicheeda Rare Earth Element Property in British Columbia.

In a news release, Defense Metals Corp. (DEFN:TSX.V; DFMTF:OTCQB; 35D:FSE) reported that it recently completed the installation of a meteorological station, stream flow monitoring and a property-wide high resolution airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDaR) survey at its Wicheeda Rare Earth Element (REE) Property.

The firm noted that the Wicheeda REE Property is located near Prince George, British Columbia, and that the work was conducted as part of its ongoing baseline environmental monitoring program.

The company's CEO Craig Taylor remarked, "Defense Metals continues to advance the Wicheeda REE Project through completion of its highly successful 2020 updated mineral resource estimate, 26 tonne flotation pilot plant, and long-term baseline environmental mentoring programs. In addition, completion of high-resolution airborne LiDaR surveys allow for enhanced planning of critical project infrastructure as we look forward to the potential development of the Wicheeda REE Project. The Fortress Value Acquisition Corp.'s US$1.4 billion merger with MP Materials/Mountain Pass and listing on the NYSE has further added awareness to the REE industry and we anticipate that this sector will continue to attract the attention of investors, governments and consumers all around the world."

Defense Metals stated that "the Wicheeda project has indicated mineral resources of 4,890,000 tonnes averaging 3.02% Light Rare Earth Elements (LREO) and inferred mineral resources of 12,100,000 tonnes averaging 2.90% LREO."

The company further highlighted that "flotation pilot-plant processing of a 26-tonne bulk sample of Wicheeda REE material yielded a mineral concentrate averaging 7.4% NdPr oxide (neodymium-praseodymium) critical magnet metals."

The firm reported that in order to satisfy a regulatory requirement it contracted with Environmental Consulting Inc. and Swiftwater Consulting Ltd. to perform an assessment of regional climate data to support baseline monitoring activities and meteorological station installation at Wicheeda. The company noted that this data aids in characterizing the project area and provides important inputs for use later in design and permitting. The meteorological station provides continuous real-time telemetry monitored data collection for measuring barometric pressure, precipitation, solar radiation snow depth, wind speed and direction parameters.

The company also stated that it hired Eagle Mapping Ltd. to collect color aerial photography and LiDAR of the Wicheeda REE Project. In addition, Defense Metals said that it has already completed hydrometric station installs within the Wicheeda REE Project, which are designed to collect stream flow data in accordance with provincial standards and regulations.

The firm noted that the Wicheeda REE Property encompasses about 1,708 hectares and is located around 80 km northeast of Prince George, B.C. The property is located in the Foreland Belt within the Rocky Mountain Trench and includes several carbonatite and alkaline intrusive complexes hosting the Aley (niobium), Rock Canyon (REE) and Wicheeda (REE) deposits. The company stated that the property is accessible by all-weather gravel roads and is located close to desired infrastructure including power transmission lines, highways and railways.
