Seabridge Gold will carry out geotechnical drilling in the proposed area for the tunnel that will connect the mine and mill at its KSM gold-copper project.

KSM 2020 PEA Mine Plan

In a news release, Seabridge Gold Inc. (SEA:TSX; SA:NYSE.MKT) announced it started geotechnical drilling in the area tentatively designated for the Mitchell Treaty Tunnels (MTT) that will connect the mine and mill at its KSM gold-copper project in British Columbia.

The twinned tunnels will be used to transfer ore to the mill from the mine, and, conversely, supplies, including electricity and fuel, to the mine from the mill. The structures need to be located in a geotechnically suitable place where tailings can be managed.

Seabridge plans to drill 10 holes over 4,000 meters to determine the condition of the rocks below the proposed MTT route. With this information, the company will determine the best excavation technology to employ.

Whereas the Toronto-based company's permit allows for 40 holes to be drilled, Seabridge opted to decrease the extent of its planned summer program because of COVID-19, "to reduce the load on our camp facilities and protect our employees and contractors," Chairman and CEO Rudi Fronk said in the release.

Along with the drilling, the resource explorer will install equipment so that data can continue being collected. This additional information will help Seabridge finalize the MTT design.

The company plans to carry out another program later this summer, which would include geophysics work and borehole drilling "to determine foundation properties for construction of one of the MTT's key portals," the release noted.
