Testing generated 80% recoveries at a rare earth oxide concentrate grade of 44%.

Defense Metals Corp. (DEFN:TSX.V; DFMTF:OTC; 35D:FSEQB) announced in a news release that results of metallurgical testing done at the Wicheeda rare earth elements (REE) project in British Columbia were positive.

Twenty-one batch flotation tests were completed so far, and each showed progressively better results than the previous. The most recent batch testing, F21, resulted in an 80% recovery of cerium, lanthanum and neodymium oxides; a 44% rare earth oxide concentrate grade; a 9.5 times upgrading ratio from the head grade and an 8.4% concentrate mass yield.

"Based on publicly available research authored by SGS staff and Defense Metals' discussions with experts in the REE industry, the flotation response of the Wicheeda material is considered among the best in its class with relatively high upgrading ratios in comparison with other REE projects," the release noted. SGS Canada Inc. is the firm conducting the metallurgical work.

The mass yield to the concentrate level also is significant as it could reduce acid consumption during the subsequent hydrometallurgical extraction phase, and in turn, ultimately reduce operating and/or capital costs down the line.

The current batch flotation test results are consistent with the flotation test results, also done by SGS, in 2011.

"Defense Metals looks forward to the completion of additional batch flotation tests and locked cycle flotation testing to establish a finalized process flowsheet," CEO Craig Taylor said in the release.
