The first smattering of tests aimed to further optimize the leaching process.

Cypress Development Corp. (CYP:TSX.V; CYDVF:OTCQB; C1Z1:FSE) announced in a news release that completion of the first phase of metallurgical testing for the prefeasibility study (PFS) on its Clayton Valley lithium project confirmed the parameters used in the 2018 preliminary economic assessment (PEA).

Specifically, the new tests led to the state where lithium could be recovered consistently and extraction was optimized at 75–83% to allow for various types of leaching scenarios, the company noted. Sulfuric acid consumptions were 85–132 kilogram per ton.

Continental Metallurgical Services (CMS) has been doing and continues to carry out the metallurgical test work. CMS conducted 75 individual tests that involved leaching composite sample material from the project, the goal being to reproduce the leaching aspect of the process outlined in the PEA's flow sheet, according to the company.

"While [the testing] was time consuming, the information gained on the behavior of the clay during leaching is invaluable and represents a huge step forward in our understanding of the leaching process," CEO Bill Willoughby said in the release. "With this as a foundation, we are confident in moving forward to the next phase of testing in the PFS."

The remaining work for the PFS will focus on demonstrating how lithium produced from the pregnant leach solution can be converted into a sellable form.
