Turkey Insists on Nuclear Energy

Turkey's determination to build a nuclear power facility continues, said Energy Minister Taner Yıldız during a meeting with his counterpart from Switzerland, a country that has decided to withdraw from nuclear energy after the recent disaster caused by the collapse of the Fukushima plant in Japan in March.
Once the Akkuyu nuclear power plant on Turkey's Mediterranean coast was constructed, installed power equal to one year of Turkey's growth would be obtained, Yıldız said.
"Nuclear energy is a part of lessening our dependence on foreign sources. We are trying to lower the share of natural gas in electricity generation and obtain electricity from nuclear sources," he said. . .View full article
