The U.S. Mint reported 6,422,000 American Eagle one-ounce silver bullion coins were sold during January 2011, nearly 50% higher than any prior month in the Mint's 26 years of published sales.

The previous U.S. Mint monthly record for silver bullion coin sales of 4.26 million ounces was only recently set in November 2010.

U.S. Mint American Eagle gold bullion coin sales for January of this year were reported at 133,500 ounces, up from to 92,000 ounces of gold bullion sales reported by the U.S. Mint for January 2010.
