"'Significant benefit for online bullion buyers in volatile times.'"
The website, for small and large purchases, was linked to live market data and prices were in line with spot markets, the mint said in a statement on Monday.
Perth Mint sales and marketing director Ron Currie said the price of coins and bars would be held for at least 60 seconds, giving customers time to lock-in the advertised price.
"That's a significant benefit for online bullion buyers in volatile times," Mr Currrie said in a statement.
The new site was aimed at a broad spectrum of investors, from first-time buyers seeking a single bullion coin, to institutions looking for volume breaks on larger orders, the mint said.
The gold price has risen through US$1,400 per fine ounce last week but has retreated slightly since.
