Troilus Gold Corp. reported it has been granted environmental regulatory approval to commence dewatering of Z87 and J4 Pits at its property located within the Frotêt-Evans Greenstone Belt.

In a news release, Troilus Gold Corp. (TLG:TSX; CHXMF:OTCQB) announced that it has received a "Certificate of Authorization from the Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC) under Section 115.8 Chapter Q02 of the Environment Quality Act to proceed with the dewatering of the Z87 and J4 pits."

Troilus Gold advised that it submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in November 2019 in order to gain approval for the dewatering of the pits. The company additionally engaged in dialogue with the community and families who may be impacted on the Troilus property as well as with Mistissini and Chibougamau community members.

The company indicated that the former Troilus mine, which operated from 1996 to 2010, produced more than 2 million ounces of gold along with 70,000 tons of copper.

The firm explained that the Z87 and J4 pits gradually filled with water from rain and snow melt after operations ended in 2010 and that dewatering of the pits will assist with additional exploration efforts. Troilus stated that over the last two and a half years it has completed more than 80,000 meters of drilling with the bulk of it occurring around the existing pits. The company noted that the estimated mineral resource at the property is 4.96 Moz Au eq (177 Mt with an average grade of 0.87 g/t Au eq) and the total estimated Inferred mineral resource has increased to 3.15 Moz Au eq (116.7 Mt with an average grade of 0.84 g/t Au eq).

Troilus Gold's CEO and Director Justin Reid remarked, "Obtaining the Certificate of Authorization from MELCC to dewater the J4 and Z87 Pits is an important milestone for the company. Our environmental team carefully studied the physical surroundings and engaged with the local community to develop a dewatering plan that will leave minimal impact on the surrounding environment and once complete, allow our technical team to safely engage in further drilling in the area. We appreciate the consideration and feedback from MELCC in evaluating our EIA and granting the authorization to move forward with dewatering."

The firm noted that the infrastructure required to support dewatering including a water treatment and pumping facility has already been installed onsite.
