Westward Gold advances its El Segundo drilling plans in Nevada's Cortez Trend. See why this undrilled target offers retail investors exposure to major Carlin-style gold potential near world-class operations.

Gold prices remain elevated above US$4,000 per ounce, creating a favorable backdrop for exploration companies targeting high-potential districts in Nevada. Westward Gold Inc. (WG:CSE; WGLIF:OTC; IM50:FSE) on July 20 provided additional details on its Phase I drilling campaign at the El Segundo target within its Toiyabe Hills Property in Lander County, Nevada, outlining plans for approximately 6,000 meters of reverse circulation and core drilling across eight permitted sites.

Why Nevada's Cortez Trend Offers Timely Opportunity for Retail Investors

The Cortez Trend hosts multiple world-class gold operations controlled by major producers. Westward Gold controls the only undrilled lower-plate window in the immediate area, positioning the company to test new targets during a period of strong precious metals prices.

Why Westward Gold Stands Out Among Junior Explorers

The company assembled an 84-square-kilometer contiguous land package over five years. This gives Westward control of 13 kilometers of strike along the Hilltop Structural Corridor, a district-scale feature that hosts the three main targets slated for 2026 testing.

Unique Advantages of the Toiyabe Hills Property

Lower-plate carbonate rocks of the Wenban and Roberts Mountains Formations, the principal host strata in the Cortez District, are exposed across the El Segundo target area. These rocks have never been drilled at this location despite their proximity to major deposits.

Key Catalyst: Phase I Drilling at the El Segundo Target

Vice President of Exploration Robert Edie said in a company news release that eight pads have been permitted, with construction nearing completion on the eastern pads. Holes will test vertical sections of the Wenban Formation and the underlying Roberts Mountains Formation. Core drilling will focus on structural zones, while reverse circulation drilling provides real-time geological data.

The program targets laterally disseminated Carlin-style gold along favorable Wenban sub-units and higher-grade gold along dike margins and fault corridors. Planned hole orientations intersect silica alteration, argillic alteration, jasperoids identified by controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric surveys, and potential decalcification zones from gravity data.

Surface sampling returned a large arsenic plume with rock-chip gold values up to 1.6 grams per tonne and antimony values up to 589 parts per million, the highest reported on the property.

Supporting Datasets and Geological Context

Geophysical work completed between 2024 and 2026 includes gravity, airborne magnetic, and controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric surveys. These datasets, combined with 1:5,000-scale geological mapping, identified decalcification, silicification, and northeast-striking structural corridors that guide drill planning.

Additional 2026 Exploration Across the Property

Phase II drilling is planned at the Campfire target complex following a 7,163-meter Phase I reverse circulation program completed in 2025. At the SSD Zone, step-out and infill drilling plus trenching will test a 200-by-600-meter mineralized corridor outlined by prior holes.

Westward's presentation outlines an active 2026 exploration program centered on the Toiyabe Hills Project.

Board Expertise and Share Structure

Chairman Dr. Quinton Hennigh brings more than 25 years of exploration experience, including involvement in the Springpole gold deposit. According to the May 2026 corporate presentation, investor Keith Neumeyer holds a 4.3 percent interest.

1Management, directors, and advisors hold 9.3 percent of the company, while institutions own 23.3 percent. Westward Gold Inc. reported approximately 234.7 million shares outstanding and a public float of about 140.60 million shares. Market capitalization stands at roughly CA$29.19 million with a 52-week trading range of CA$0.07 to CA$0.165.

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Westward Gold controls the only undrilled lower-plate window near major Cortez Trend operations.
  • El Segundo represents a new, never-drilled target supported by multiple geophysical and geochemical datasets.
  • Approximately 6,000 meters of drilling across eight permitted sites will test Carlin-style gold potential in 2026.
  • The company holds 13 km of strike along the district-scale Hilltop Structural Corridor.
  • Experienced board members and meaningful insider ownership align interests with retail shareholders.
  • Gold prices above US$4,000 per ounce provide a supportive macro environment for exploration results.

Common Questions from Investors

What is the primary goal of the El Segundo program?

The Phase I campaign aims to test the Wenban and Roberts Mountains Formations for Carlin-style gold mineralization along structural corridors and alteration zones.

How does Toiyabe Hills compare to neighboring deposits?

The property forms part of the same regional structural, magmatic, and stratigraphic system as Nevada Gold Mines' Cortez, Cortez Hills, Pipeline, Goldrush, and Fourmile operations.

What work has already been completed at El Segundo?

Systematic mapping, soil and rock geochemistry, gravity, magnetic, and controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotelluric surveys have defined drill targets over two years.

Gold Holds Above US$4,000 as Markets Watch Geopolitical and Rate Signals

Gold traded at a spot ask price of US$4,036.34 per ounce as of 6:28 a.m. EDT on July 20.

Reuters reported on July 20 that gold prices were largely unchanged as investors weighed developments in the U.S.-Iran conflict alongside comments from U.S.

Kitco News reported on July 17 that gold finished the week lower but continued to hold above the US$4,000-per-ounce level.

Third-Party Highlights Nevada Gold Exploration Activity

In a January 6 report published by 321 Gold, commentator Bob Moriarty highlighted the property's location in elephant country and noted that the market places relatively little value on its exploration potential despite proximity to major deposits.

Westward Gold continues to advance its 2026 exploration program at a time when gold remains above key psychological levels and structural drivers support further interest in quality exploration stories in Nevada.
