Getty Copper reports strong initial drill results at its Highland Valley project as global copper demand rises from AI data centers, EVs, and potential U.S. tariffs.

Getty Copper Inc. (GTC:TSX.V; GTCDF:OTCMKTS) is advancing exploration in one of Canada's most prolific copper districts at a time when global demand for the metal continues to strengthen.

The company recently released the first assay results from its 2026 exploration program at the Getty project in British Columbia's Highland Valley district. These results come as investors evaluate copper's role in artificial intelligence infrastructure, electric vehicles, and defense systems.

Copper Market Opportunity Sets Stage for Junior Explorers

According to a June 19 report from Bloomberg News, the global copper market remained focused on a pending U.S. decision regarding tariffs on refined copper imports. Traders are watching a Commerce Department review due at the end of June and assessing how any tariff decision could shift trade flows and inventories.

Michael Ballanger of GGM Advisory wrote on June 23 that copper had continued to outperform many other metals during the year. The metal posted an 11.75 percent gain year-to-date and reached two record highs after its January peak. Ballanger noted that copper remains central to data-center construction and broader electrification trends.

A June 24 report by Mia Nurmamat in the South China Morning Post examined copper's growing strategic importance in global supply chains. The article highlighted copper's use in servers, cooling systems for AI, EV batteries, and modern defense electronics, while noting concerns over concentrated smelting capacity outside North America.

Why Getty Copper Stands Out in a Proven District

Getty Copper controls a large land package in British Columbia's Highland Valley district, home to several long-life copper mines. The company is conducting the first material drill program on the property in more than 30 years, using modern multielement assays and three-dimensional modeling that were unavailable during earlier work.

In a June 18 commentary, Jeff Clark and Daniel Flynn of Paydirt Prospector discussed Getty Copper and its exploration activities in British Columbia's Highland Valley district. They described the project as a revitalized copper explorer in one of Canada's best copper districts and noted that the historical indicated resource stands at 114 million tonnes grading 0.37 percent copper.

Initial 2026 Drill Results Confirm and Expand Mineralization

The first three holes of the 2026 program returned the following results. Hole GN26-01, a resource confirmation hole, intersected 342 meters grading 0.50 percent copper, 87 parts per million molybdenum, and 0.8 gram per tonne silver from a depth of nine meters, including 108 meters grading 0.70 percent copper. Hole GN26-04 intersected 278 meters grading 0.38 percent copper from 22 meters, including 150 meters grading 0.51 percent copper. Hole GN26-03, an expansion hole, intersected 170.8 meters grading 0.24 percent copper from 408.2 meters, including 45.9 meters grading 0.40 percent copper, confirming mineralization continues down plunge.

Chief executive officer Ryan O'Regan said in the company's news release: "These initial results from Getty North highlight the potential of our Highland Valley district claim package. Our near-term focus is improving the data quality for Getty North for a future resource and seeking to expand the size of the deposit."

Key Investor Takeaways

  • Getty Copper is drilling a known porphyry copper system in a top-tier Canadian district with the first substantial program in three decades.
  • Early 2026 holes returned grades and widths consistent with historical data while extending mineralization at depth.
  • The company plans 12,000 to 16,000 meters of drilling in 2026 to support a modern resource estimate.
  • Copper demand is supported by AI infrastructure, EVs, and policy developments that could affect North American supply chains.
  • Shareholders recently approved a potential consolidation and a new equity incentive plan, both subject to exchange approval.

Planned Work and Catalysts Through 2026

Getty intends to complete 8,000 to 10,000 meters of resource-focused drilling and 4,000 to 6,000 meters of exploration drilling this year. Objectives include upgrading the historical resource, testing deeper extensions at Getty North, and advancing targets at Getty South and other areas such as Getty West and Bark.

According to the company's June 2026 corporate presentation, the program will also collect data for future geometallurgical modeling. Assay results are expected throughout the summer.
