Nobel Resources Corp. (NBLC:TSXV) announced on June 15, 2026, the completion of its Pampa Austral drilling campaign and the commencement of its Cuprita project drill campaign. Cuprita has become the company's main focus, as Nobel has decided to terminate option agreements for both the Anais and Pampa Austral projects, noting that historical results could not be repeated at the locations.
The Cuprita project has been upgraded by recent field surveys, as pointed out by CEO and Director of Nobel, Vernon Arseneau, said in the release: "Based on my decades of experience in this region, we rarely see such intensely altered porphyry systems with only the few drill holes completed by Nobel and no other drilling. These are large, complex systems and require a systematic approach and some persistence to solve geometry."
In regard to the abandoned projects, Arseneau said, "The results obtained at Pampa Austral and Anais have downgraded the potential at those projects in our estimation; however, we remain committed to continuing exploration at Cuprita and Janett. Both projects have strong exploration potential, and we intend to focus on exploring these during the coming months."
Nobel Resources is a Canadian resource company focused on identifying and developing prospective mineral projects in northern Chile.
Copper Demand Unwavering
So far, copper prices have risen more than 10% since the start of the year, and over 40% since the beginning of 2025.
In a war that has drawn focus due to oil shortages, investors may find themselves questioning what problems it could cause for copper. Other than the traditional volatility of metals during times of political uncertainty, Josh Chiat of Stockhead noted that "the Middle East is a major source of sulphur, a by-product from oil and gas production, and an input key to the sulphuric acid commonly used in nickel and copper processing. Twenty percent of the world's copper supply comes from SX-EW (solvent extraction and electrowinning), which requires sulphuric acid, which has been impacted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz."
Peace talks between the U.S. and Iran are currently going smoothly, with a temporary ceasefire announced on June 14, 2026. It seems the Strait will be reopening this week, which could affect copper's price. Still, copper prices are unlikely to fall dramatically, even if a permanent resolution is found. China's output fell by 3% in April 2026, and tariff expenses are keeping the metal's price high.
