Unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer Draganfly Inc. reported that it has concluded its aerial coronavirus social distancing test with the Westport, Conn., Police Department.

In a news release, Draganfly Inc. (DFLY:CSE; DFLYF:OTCQB), which manufactures commercial unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) and unmanned vehicles (UVs), announced that "it has ended the development of a social distancing measurement test program with the Westport, Conn. Police Department."

The company's CEO Cameron Chell commented, "While the development of the program is not moving forward in Westport, this was a valuable learning experience from which we are looking forward to evaluating the processes and lessons learned so the practice of social distancing has the right policies and procedures put in place to support this lifesaving technology...We look forward to working with other pilot partners and thank the Westport Police Department for their expertise and concern for public safety."

Westport's Police Chief Foti Koskinas remarked, "I am always committed to bringing our community the most innovative solutions to the public safety problems that it faces more now than ever with this virus continues to spread through the global community...We are honored to have been given an opportunity to assist in a pilot program which could someday prove to be a valuable lifesaving tool. In our steadfast commitment to public service, we hope to be included in future innovations once we are convinced the program is appropriate for Westport."

The company indicated that the goal of the Draganfly pandemic drone and camera systems is to provide real time, anonymized data on social distancing. This firm stated that this data has the ability to assist public safety officials in determining the degree to which a virus is present within the community and aid in re-opening economies in a prudent and safe manner.

Draganfly emphasized that "its technology does not employ facial recognition or collect individualized data, single out individuals and is not used for surveillance or contact tracing." The company explained that the software is used to understand patterns within a population, which allows officials to react more quickly to any ongoing or new public health concerns.

Draganfly is based in Saskatoon, Canada, and noted that it is the creator of quality, cutting-edge, UVs and the software that is necessary to guide them. The company engages in commercial UAV and UV manufacturing for the agriculture, industrial inspection, mapping and surveying and public safety markets.
