Cypress Development Corp. (CYP:TSX.V; CYDVF:OTCQB; C1Z1:FSE) announced in a news release it met a major milestone in the completion of slurry rheology and filtration studies on its Clayton Valley lithium project in Nevada.
This work, which was required for the prefeasibility study on the project, simplifies the process flowsheet. "Significant test work has allowed Cypress to identify a commercially viable process, based on filtration, to take the solid-liquid separation from the laboratory benchtop to the operational scale," CEO Bill Willoughby said in the release.
Recent work involved recovering and concentrating the lithium from solution through various methods, including mechanical evaporation, membrane filtration and ion exchange. Also, the company tested the physical properties of the leach slurry to determine how best to handle it in the various leach stages, including washing and final tailings placement.
During that work, Cypress discovered that the Clayton Valley clays behave differently under varying leach conditions. "By looking at the electrokinetic potential of the clays, we can select the reagents and equipment needed. We also know under what conditions the rheology of the slurries becomes a limitation and can design the flowsheet accordingly," Willoughby explained.
He added that Cypress, now armed with greater knowledge and ideal processes, can move forward with the prefeasibility study, which it expects to release in Q4/19.
