Liberty Defense Holdings Ltd. (SCAN:TSX.V; LD2:FSE) announced in a news release that the Virginia Division of Capitol Police (VDCP) agreed to join the growing roster of entities that will beta test Liberty's HEXWAVE product. Beta testing is expected to start later in 2019 and continue into 2020.
The VDCP maintains security of Virginia's seat of government, which includes protecting its capitol complex. Each year the force screens about 500,000 people entering state buildings.
Liberty plans to use the opportunity to assess how HEXWAVE integrates into and communicates within an existing security system in a live environment.
"As we continue our market outreach and brand awareness programs, the depth and breadth of interest and the need for a solution with the ability to secure facilities and protect their patrons only seems to be increasing," Liberty CEO Bill Riker said in the release.
"We are pleased to work with Liberty Defense to evaluate its next generation system that may become the means by which we secure important facilities in the future. We will test the HEXWAVE system in a live environment and in tandem with our existing security procedures," said Virginia Capitol Police Chief Anthony S. Pike.
Liberty Defense noted that HEXWAVE "uses low-power, radar imaging and artificial intelligence, primarily to detect and identify weapons, as well as other threats and anomalies. It enables security teams to detect these threats at the perimeter of the property without obstructing the movement of large groups of people."
