This augmented reality feature allows e-tailers to better serve their online consumers.

NexTech AR Solutions Corp. (NTAR:CSE; NEXCF:OTCQB) announced in a news release that as part of its e-commerce platform, it launched the second in a series of "sentiment analysis capabilities" that complements its Try-It-On augmented reality (AR) experience. The offering benefits both e-tailers and their online customers.

This new feature captures and analyzes online shoppers' facial expressions every few seconds in real time while they are using the augmented reality Try-it-On function and, based on their reactions, positive or negative, suggests certain items for purchase. Currently, the threshold for recommendations is the customer smiling while wearing the item, and those appear on-screen as prompts to add the specific merchandise to their carts.

"With the ability to gauge shoppers' reaction to an item in real time, we can now mirror the in-store experience online by urging shoppers to make a purchase when we know they're happy with a product or can recommend a different product when we know they're dissatisfied," CEO Evan Gappelberg said in the release.

For e-tailers, the function personalizes the online shopping experience, according to the release. It works similarly to an in-store salesperson providing positive feedback and encouraging a customer to buy. However, online, it can be done at the point of purchase and through retargeting later. For instance, companies canuse the sentiment data to inform their marketing, sending e-mail blasts and offering coupon codes for the products to which the consumer expressed delight.

The foundation of this sentiment analysis capability is computer vision technology in conjunction with Microsoft Azure functions, the company explained.
