How do they do it? France gets 80 percent of its electricity from nuclear power - the energy source of choice to meet the everyday need for clean electricity generation. And France has used its know-how to export nuclear-generated electricity throughout Europe.

Despite some differences, such as France's decision to reprocess spent-nuclear fuel instead of treating it as if it were nuclear waste to be disposed of, the American and French nuclear programs today share a lot in common. Nuclear reactors in both countries have excellent safety records...

Today, 17 U.S. electrical companies and consortiums are planning to build more than 30 new nuclear plants, including four units in Florida. The first wave of new plants will enter service in 2016 or so...
