Leader of the WA Liberal Opposition, Troy Buswell, gained a positive response from delegates at the Australian Uranium Conference in Fremantle today after he made it clear the ban imposed on uranium mining by Labor Premier Allan Carpenter would end should the Liberal coalition gain power.

Buswell said it was illogical that the Carpenter Government was adamantly opposed to uranium and this was playing into the hands of another Labor-controlled State, South Australia, as was shown by the fact that $A90 million ($US86.43 M) was being spent on uranium prospecting in SA, while WA as the country's dominant resource State was seeing expenditure of only $A19 M ($US18.24 M)...

Buswell told Mineweb that a green light for mining and exporting of uranium in the State had been on the party's manifesto for years and that breaking the political impasse created by Premier Carpenter would be one clear case of political differences to put to the electorate.
